Kanya Mandir Secondary School is Nepal's first and oldest institution dedicated entirely to the education of girls. Established on 14th Chaitra, 2003 BS (March 27, 1947) near Chhatrapati Chowk, Kathmandu, we have spent over 75 years empowering young women through quality education. What began with five visionary founders and just 13 students has grown into one of Nepal's most respected schools, serving over 1,000 girls from Nursery through Grade 12. We are not just a school — we are a 75-year-old promise to every girl in Nepal that her education matters, her potential is limitless, and her future begins here.

🏫 1947 (2003 BS)

Foundation — Established as Nepal's first ever girls' school with just 13 students by five visionary community leaders in Nhyokha, Kathmandu.

👑 1951 (2007 BS)

Royal Inauguration — Formally inaugurated by Maharajadhiraj Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah Dev, granting royal recognition and national prominence.

🎓 1997 (2054 BS)

Higher Secondary Affiliation — Received official affiliation from the Council of Higher Secondary Education, launching 10+2 programs in Humanities, Management, and Education.

💻 2003 (2060 BS)

Computer Education — Introduced formal computer classes and digital classrooms, marking the school's step into modern technology-integrated learning.

Academic Recognition — Received district-level recognition for outstanding academic results and pioneering girls' empowerment initiatives in Nepal.

75+ Years Strong — Proudly serving 1,000+ girls from Nursery to Grade 12 with Montessori pre-school, English medium instruction, three NEB 10+2 streams, and annual support for 200+ students.

Our Founding Story

Nepal's First Girls' School — Born From Courage in 1947

In 1947, when girls' education in Nepal was almost unheard of, five extraordinary community leaders from Kathmandu dared to imagine a different future. They believed Nepal could never truly progress without educating its daughters. On 14th Chaitra, 2003 BS (March 27, 1947), they established Kanya Mandir Secondary School — Nepal's very first institution dedicated entirely to girls' education — with just 13 students in a modest building near Chhatrapati Chowk.

The school was formally inaugurated by Maharajadhiraj Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah Dev on 14th Chaitra 2007 BS, granting it royal recognition and national prominence. When the devastating 2015 earthquake damaged our original building, we rebuilt stronger — with a new 33-room academic block, a counseling centre, and a multipurpose hall. Today, we serve over 1,000 girls from Nursery through Grade 12.
